About UAEexplained.com
Last updated: May 2026
UAE Explained was built with one clear purpose: to create a reliable, readable, and genuinely useful resource for anyone trying to understand life in the United Arab Emirates. Whether you’re a first-time visitor planning a trip, a newly arrived expat working out the basics, or someone who has lived here for years and still runs into questions that are surprisingly hard to answer — this site was made for you.
Why We Started This Site?
There is no shortage of information about the UAE on the internet. The problem is that most of it is scattered across government portals that aren’t always easy to navigate, buried in expat forums full of conflicting opinions, or written in dry official language that leaves you more confused than when you started.
We felt there was a real gap for content that is accurate, current, and actually written for real people. The UAE moves fast — laws change, new visa categories are introduced, regulations around business and employment evolve, and living costs shift. Keeping on top of all of that while getting on with your daily life is genuinely difficult. We wanted to build something that does that heavy lifting for you.
Whether you want to know how to transfer a foreign driving licence, what documents a specific visa application requires, which public conduct rules apply to non-Muslims during Ramadan, or how the banking system works for people brand new to the country — this is the resource we wish had existed when we were figuring it all out ourselves.
What We Cover?
Our content is organised around the topics that actually matter to people living in or visiting the Emirates. We cover a wide range of subjects and are always expanding.
Visas and Residency
From tourist visas to the Golden Visa, we break down the different residency pathways in plain language. UAE visa rules can be surprisingly complex, and they change more often than most people expect. Our articles give you a clear starting point, and we always link to official government sources so you can verify current requirements before making any applications.
Daily Life and Culture
Moving to a new country isn’t just about paperwork — there is a whole cultural adjustment that comes with it. We cover topics like local customs and etiquette, navigating the UAE working week, rules around public behaviour, and how Islamic traditions shape daily life here, including for people who are not Muslim.
Finance and Banking
Opening a bank account, understanding how the UAE’s income tax-free system works in practice, knowing what costs to expect when renting or buying property — we cover all of this. We also get into practical matters like sending money internationally, understanding typical salary structures, and what to look out for in a tenancy contract.
Business and Employment
The UAE is one of the most active business hubs in the world. We explain the differences between mainland and free zone company setups, what UAE employment contracts typically include, what the Labour Law says about employee rights and employer obligations, and how to navigate common workplace situations.
Travel and Tourism
Beyond the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall, the UAE has a great deal to offer — spread across all seven emirates. We help visitors understand where to go, what to expect, and how to handle the practical side of travelling here, from entry requirements to getting around without a car.
Healthcare and Education
Two of the most important considerations for anyone settling anywhere new. We explain how health insurance works in the UAE (it is mandatory for most residents), how to find schools and understand the various curriculum options available, and what the public versus private healthcare landscape looks like for both residents and visitors.
Our Editorial Values
Accuracy First
We do our research before we publish. Every article is carefully checked, and we link to official sources wherever possible. When something is genuinely uncertain or subject to frequent change, we say so clearly rather than presenting guesswork as settled fact.
Written in Plain Language
We do not write for lawyers or government officials. We write for people. That means clear explanations, real examples, and no unnecessary jargon. If something is genuinely complicated, we take the time to walk through it step by step rather than glossing over the hard parts.
Kept Up to Date
Out-of-date information is often worse than no information at all — especially when it comes to visas and legal matters. We review our articles regularly and update them whenever something significant changes. Most of our articles display a “Last verified” date so you can see at a glance how fresh the information is.
Focused on the Reader
We write content because there is a genuine question worth answering — not to hit a publishing quota or chase search traffic. Reader questions and feedback directly shape what we write next. If something important is missing from the site, we want to know about it.
What We Are — and What We Are Not
UAE Explained is an independent information website. We are not affiliated with the UAE government, any official tourism authority, any embassy, or any government-linked organisation. Our content represents our best effort to explain how things work, based on publicly available official information and first-hand experience of life in the UAE.
We do not provide legal advice, immigration advice, financial advice, or medical advice. If you are dealing with a specific personal situation — a visa complication, a contract dispute, a health concern — please consult a qualified professional licensed to help with your particular circumstances. Our content is meant to give you context and a useful starting point, not to replace professional guidance. See our Disclaimer for the full picture on this.
Some articles on this site contain links to third-party products or services, and in some cases we may earn a small commission if you click a link and make a purchase. This never influences our editorial content or recommendations. Our Privacy Policy covers this and everything else related to how we handle data and advertising on the site.
The People Behind UAE Explained
UAE Explained is built and maintained by a small team of writers, researchers, and editors who either live in the UAE or have spent significant time here. We have a deliberately mixed team in terms of nationalities and backgrounds — which we think is actually an advantage. The UAE is one of the most diverse countries on earth, and the questions people have here come from many different cultural starting points and life situations.
We are not a faceless content operation. We are a small team that genuinely cares about getting things right. If you have found our content useful, that honestly means a lot to us. And if you have spotted something that is out of date, factually wrong, or simply unclear, we want to hear about it. Use our Contact page to reach us, and we will look into it properly.
How to Get the Most Out of This Site
Where you start depends on what brought you here. If you are thinking about moving to the UAE, articles on visas, cost of living, and housing are a solid first stop. If you are already here and need to sort out something specific — a driving licence conversion, a bank account, an employment contract question — browse the relevant category or use the search bar.
It is worth bookmarking the site and checking back around the time of major UAE government announcements — particularly after federal budget updates, changes to visa categories, or Labour Law amendments. We cover anything that meaningfully affects residents and visitors, and we try to do it promptly.
If you have a question that you simply cannot find an answer to on the site, reach out. We use reader questions to guide what we write next. You can get in touch via our Contact Us page and we will do our best to respond to every message we receive.
