UAE Family Visa Salary Requirement 2026
To sponsor a spouse and children in the UAE, male sponsors need a basic salary of AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 with employer housing. Female sponsors need AED 10,000, or AED 8,000 with housing. Parents need AED 20,000. Your basic salary counts, not your total package, and health insurance must now be in your own name as sponsor.
- Check your basic salary meets the threshold for who you sponsor.
- Arrange health insurance in your own name for each dependant.
- Gather your attested contract and tenancy contract.
Salary requirements by who you sponsor
The minimum income you need depends on two things: who you want to sponsor, and whether you are a male or female sponsor. This gender difference surprises a lot of people, so check the exact figure for your situation before you apply.
| Sponsor | Sponsoring spouse and children | Sponsoring parents |
|---|---|---|
| Male sponsor | AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 with employer housing | AED 20,000 a month |
| Female sponsor | AED 10,000 a month, or AED 8,000 with employer housing | AED 20,000 a month |
If you fall short of the threshold, sponsorship is usually not possible until your salary rises, though your employer’s housing allowance can lower the bar as shown above. For the parent route specifically, see our guide on how to sponsor parents on a UAE visa.
Why it is your basic salary, not your total pay
Authorities check the basic salary written on your attested employment contract, not your gross monthly pay. Allowances for housing, transport or other benefits do not count toward the threshold, even if your total package looks comfortably above it. This trips up a lot of applicants who assume their full salary applies.
Confirm your basic figure on your contract before you apply, and get a salary certificate from your employer that states it clearly. A mismatch between your contract and your certificate can delay or block the application.
Sponsoring children: the age rules
Sons can be sponsored up to age 25, but only if they are enrolled full time in an accredited educational institution, in the UAE or abroad, and visit the UAE at least once every six months. Once a son turns 25 or stops full-time study, sponsorship generally ends unless he qualifies under a different visa route.
Unmarried daughters can be sponsored with no upper age limit, as long as they remain unmarried. This is one of the more generous parts of UAE family sponsorship rules compared to many other countries.
Health insurance: now in your name
Health insurance is mandatory for every family member you sponsor, and it must be arranged before the visa stamp is completed. In almost every emirate, you as the sponsor are responsible for buying this cover, not your employer.
Abu Dhabi is the only emirate where the law requires employers to cover employees’ dependants directly. Everywhere else, including Dubai, you need to purchase a separate policy for each spouse and child, covering inpatient and outpatient treatment, maternity, and emergency care.
Applications are being rejected in 2026 where only the dependant holds a policy and the sponsor’s own name is not shown as the policyholder, so double check this detail carefully. The wider set of 2026 changes is in our UAE visa new rules 2026 guide, and the full range of visa topics sits in our UAE visa and immigration guide.
Frequently asked questions
What salary do I need to sponsor my family in the UAE?
Male sponsors need a basic salary of AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 with employer-provided housing, to sponsor a spouse and children. Female sponsors need AED 10,000, or AED 8,000 with housing. Sponsoring parents requires AED 20,000 a month regardless of the sponsor’s gender.
Does my total salary count, or just my basic pay?
Only your basic salary counts, as stated on your attested employment contract. Housing, transport and other allowances are not included, even though they may form a large part of your overall package. Confirm the exact basic figure on your contract before applying, and back it up with a salary certificate.
Until what age can I sponsor my son in the UAE?
You can sponsor a son up to age 25, provided he is enrolled full time at an accredited educational institution and visits the UAE at least once every six months. Unmarried daughters have no upper age limit and can remain on your sponsorship as long as they stay unmarried.
Who pays for health insurance on a family visa?
In almost every emirate, the sponsor pays for each dependant’s health insurance directly, not the employer. Abu Dhabi is the exception, where employers must cover dependants by law. Make sure the policy for each family member shows you as the sponsor, since coverage in the dependant’s name alone can cause rejection.
