UAE PASS Guide: Registration, Verification, Kiosks and Fixes
UAE PASS is the UAE’s national digital identity, a free app that lets you log in to government and many private services, and sign documents digitally, without separate passwords. To set it up, download the app, create a basic account with or without your Emirates ID, then verify it, either with face verification inside the app or at one of more than 300 UAE PASS kiosks. Only a verified account unlocks the full range of services. Registration and use are free, one account works on up to ten devices, and the support line is 600 56 1111.
- Download the UAE PASS app and choose to create an account.
- Scan your Emirates ID and confirm your mobile number and email.
- Verify with face verification in the app, or at a kiosk.
Basic and verified accounts
UAE PASS has two levels of account, and the difference explains most “this service is not available” messages.
| Account | How you get it | What it allows |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | Register in the app, with or without an Emirates ID | Limited services that a provider accepts for basic accounts |
| Verified | Verify a basic account with your Emirates ID and face | The full range of government and partner services, plus digital signing |
UAE PASS states that verified accounts are currently only for Emirates ID holders. Visitors and people living overseas can still use a basic account for the limited services that accept it. If you are a resident, verify straight away, since most services you will need, from visa and traffic services to banking logins, expect a verified account.
How to register and verify
| Step | What to do |
|---|---|
| 1. Download | Install the official UAE PASS app from the App Store or Google Play |
| 2. Create an account | Choose to create a new account and accept the terms |
| 3. Scan your Emirates ID | Scan the code on the back of the card so your details fill in |
| 4. Confirm contact details | Enter the one-time codes sent to your mobile and email |
| 5. Set a PIN | Create the PIN that protects the app |
| 6. Verify | Use face verification in the app, visit a kiosk, or upgrade from a verified SmartPass or DubaiID account |
Face verification in the app is the quickest route: it compares a live scan of your face with your Emirates ID record. If it fails repeatedly, a kiosk visit with your Emirates ID completes the same step, and UAE PASS recommends the kiosk route to get all privileges. Have your physical Emirates ID with you either way. If your card is close to expiry or being renewed, our Emirates ID renewal guide explains the process.
UAE PASS kiosks
There are more than 300 UAE PASS kiosks across the UAE. The app and the self-care portal both show the nearest ones, and the locations page lists them by area. Kiosks are commonly placed in government service centres and other public buildings, so check the location’s opening hours before you go. At the kiosk you scan your Emirates ID, have your face matched, and the account is upgraded to verified, usually in a few minutes.
Common problems and fixes
| Problem | What UAE PASS advises |
|---|---|
| Forgotten PIN | Reinstall the app, choose the ‘I have an account’ option, confirm the mobile and email codes and set a new PIN |
| New mobile number | In the app or self-care portal, go to account, then personal details, and edit the number; confirm with the code sent to it |
| New phone or lost phone | Use the account recovery option to register the new device |
| Account still basic | Complete face verification in the app or visit a kiosk |
| Cannot log in to a service | Contact the UAE PASS helpdesk on 600 56 1111 or support@uaepass.ae |
Many login problems are really mobile number problems. If you changed your number but not in UAE PASS, codes go to the old one. Update the number in the app first. The same applies to your SIM: if the line is not registered to your own Emirates ID, some services may refuse it, and our guide to SIMs on your Emirates ID shows how to check.
Keeping your UAE PASS secure
Because UAE PASS opens so many services, it is a target for fraud. When you log in to a website with UAE PASS, the app asks you to confirm the request on your phone. Only approve a request you started yourself, a few seconds earlier, on a site you chose. Scammers sometimes phone people pretending to be a bank, the police or a government office and ask them to approve a notification or read out a code; no genuine official will ask for that. Keep your PIN private, lock your phone with a passcode or biometrics, and remove UAE PASS from any old device you sell or give away. If you think someone has used your account, contact the UAE PASS helpdesk straight away and change your PIN.
What you can do with UAE PASS
A verified UAE PASS is the login for a growing list of federal and local government services, including visa and residency, traffic and vehicle, labour and many municipality services, and it is accepted by a number of banks and telecom operators for app sign-in. It also lets you sign documents digitally and verify documents signed with it. Logging in with UAE PASS means one identity across services instead of a separate username for each, and it is free to use. For the services themselves, see our visa status guide, our Emirates ID guide and the rest of our UAE government services guide.
