UAE Travel Ban Check

UAE Travel Ban Check: Dubai Police and Abu Dhabi Estafser

To check a UAE travel ban, use Dubai Police for financial or criminal cases in Dubai, or the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department’s Estafser service for cases there. A travel ban stops you leaving the country over an unpaid debt or legal case. It is different from an immigration ban, which stops you entering, and a labour ban, which only blocks a new work permit.

Do this next
  1. Identify which emirate the case might be in.
  2. Check Dubai Police or ADJD Estafser with your Emirates ID or UID.
  3. If a ban shows, resolve the underlying case to lift it.

Travel ban vs immigration ban vs labour ban

These three terms get mixed up constantly, and they come from three different authorities with three different effects. Knowing which one applies to you decides where you check and how you fix it.

Ban type Issued by What it blocks Common cause
Travel ban Police or a court, over a civil or criminal case Leaving the UAE Unpaid debt, bounced cheque, pending case
Immigration ban ICP or GDRFA Entering or residing in the UAE Overstay, fraud, illegal entry, serious offences
Labour ban MOHRE Getting a new work permit only Leaving a job without serving notice

A labour ban does not stop you entering or leaving the country at all, and a travel ban does not affect your right to work. If your concern is specifically about your employment record, see our labour ban check guide instead, which covers MOHRE separately.

How to check for a travel ban?

There is no single, unified portal for every case in the UAE. Which service you use depends on which emirate the case is registered in. These are the two main free options.

Service Covers What you need
Dubai Police financial and criminal cases service Financial and criminal cases in Dubai Emirates ID number, UAE Pass login
Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, Estafser Cases in Abu Dhabi Your Unified ID (UID) number, found on your visa

On the Dubai Police app, sign in with UAE Pass, open Services, then Circulars and Travel Bans. Your Emirates ID number instantly shows any active ban or circular linked to it. On the ADJD Estafser service, open eServices, select Estafser, and enter your UID to see any bans, arrest warrants or payment orders registered against you.

If your case might involve immigration rather than a civil or criminal matter, that is checked separately through ICP or GDRFA. See our guide to a general UAE visa status check for that route.

How a travel ban gets lifted?

A travel ban is tied to an underlying case, so it lifts once that case is resolved, whether that means paying a debt, satisfying a court judgment, or having charges dropped. This is one area where the UAE has genuinely simplified things.

Since August 2024, a travel ban tied to a resolved case lifts automatically within minutes under the Zero Government Bureaucracy programme. You no longer file paperwork or make a separate application to remove it.

So the fastest way to clear a travel ban is simply to settle whatever triggered it. Once the debt is paid or the judgment satisfied, check again after a short wait to confirm the system has updated. The full set of visa and legal status topics sits in our UAE visa and immigration guide.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if I have a travel ban in the UAE?

For a Dubai case, use the Dubai Police financial and criminal cases service with your Emirates ID and UAE Pass login. For an Abu Dhabi case, use the ADJD Estafser service with your UID number. Both are free and show any active ban or circular linked to you instantly.

What is the difference between a travel ban and an immigration ban?

A travel ban, issued by police or a court, stops you leaving the UAE over a civil or criminal case, such as unpaid debt. An immigration ban, issued by ICP or GDRFA, stops you entering or residing in the UAE at all, usually for overstay, fraud or serious offences. They come from different authorities and need different checks.

Does a travel ban affect my visa or work permit?

Not directly. A travel ban only stops you leaving the country while it is active, and it does not change your visa status or your ability to work. It is separate from a labour ban, which is issued by MOHRE and only affects getting a new work permit, not entry or exit.

How long does it take for a travel ban to lift?

Since August 2024, a ban tied to a resolved case lifts automatically within minutes once the debt is paid or the judgment satisfied, with no separate application needed. Before that, check again after settling the case to confirm the system has updated your record.
