Absconding Case Check: How to Check Your Status in the UAE?
To check for an absconding case, log in to MOHRE e-services or the MOHRE app with UAE Pass, open Absconding Case Status, and search with your Emirates ID and passport number. You can also call MOHRE on 600 590 000. Because labour and immigration records are separate, check your ICP status too as a clear MOHRE result does not confirm both.
- Log in to the MOHRE app with UAE Pass.
- Open Absconding Case Status and enter your Emirates ID.
- Check your ICP immigration status separately too.
How to check for an absconding case?
An absconding report can sit quietly on your record and only surface when a new job or visa is refused, so it is worth checking before you need to. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) holds the labour-side record, and there are several ways to read it.
| Where to check | What it covers | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| MOHRE app or e-services | Labour absconding complaint | UAE Pass login, Emirates ID, passport |
| MOHRE call centre 600 590 000 | Labour absconding complaint | Work permit, Emirates ID, or passport |
| ICP smart services | Immigration / visa-side report | Emirates ID, passport, file number |
| Police station (in person) | A cross-check on your record | Emirates ID and contract details |
The quickest route is the MOHRE app: sign in with UAE Pass, open Absconding Case Status (or the inquiry services section), and enter your Emirates ID and passport number to see whether any complaint is registered. The call centre, on 600 590 000, runs from 8am to 8pm in more than 20 languages if you would rather ask a person.
Why you must check both labour and immigration?
This is the step most people miss. Labour and immigration are two separate systems: MOHRE handles the employment side, while the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) handles the visa and immigration side.
A clear result on MOHRE does not mean your immigration file is also clear, and vice versa. To be sure you have no absconding flag blocking your next step, check both independently, MOHRE for the labour record and ICP for the immigration record.
What an absconding case does to you
An absconding report is serious because of what it triggers automatically. The moment MOHRE accepts the complaint, the consequences start to stack up:
- Your work permit is suspended immediately.
- The residence visa tied to that job is cancelled through ICP or GDRFA.
- A confirmed case brings a one-year labour ban, recorded across all emirates, during which you cannot obtain a new work permit anywhere in the UAE.
If a case has been filed against you, do not wait for it to block something, see how to remove absconding status in the UAE. Because a confirmed case also creates a ban, it is worth running a labour ban check at the same time, and confirming your work permit status.
When an employer can and cannot file
An employer cannot file an absconding report on a whim. The rule is that you must have been absent for seven consecutive days without the employer being able to reach you or knowing your whereabouts. A report filed before that, or filed in retaliation for a resignation or a dispute, is open to challenge.
The system also protects employees from abuse. An employer who files a false absconding report faces a fine of AED 5,000, and their file can be suspended so they cannot hire until it is paid.
If you have been wrongly reported, you can contest it through MOHRE’s dispute process and, where needed, file a MOHRE complaint. The wider context is in our UAE work and labour guide.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check if I have an absconding case in the UAE?
Log in to MOHRE e-services or the MOHRE app with UAE Pass, open Absconding Case Status, and enter your Emirates ID and passport number. You can also call MOHRE on 600 590 000. For the immigration side, check ICP smart services separately, as labour and visa records are held in different systems.
Can I check an absconding case for free?
Yes. Checking your absconding status through the official MOHRE app, the e-services portal, or the call centre is free, as is the ICP enquiry. There is only a charge if you ask a typing or Tasheel centre to do it for you. You do not need to pay any third-party website to check your status.
When can an employer file an absconding report?
Only after you have been absent for seven consecutive days without the employer being able to contact you or know your whereabouts. A report filed earlier than that, or in retaliation for a resignation, can be challenged. Filing a false report exposes the employer to an AED 5,000 fine and a suspension of their hiring file.
What happens if an absconding case is confirmed?
Your work permit is suspended and the linked residence visa is cancelled, and a confirmed case brings a one-year labour ban recorded across all emirates. During that year you cannot obtain a new work permit anywhere in the UAE. This is why it is important to check early and, if a case exists, act to remove it before it blocks your next job.
