Sharjah Bus Routes: Mowasalat, Fares and Timings
Sharjah’s bus network is branded Mowasalat and run by the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority. Local city routes generally run from about 06:00 to between 21:00 and 22:00, which is considerably shorter than Dubai’s day. Fares are around AED 6 on most intra-city routes with a Sayer card, Sharjah’s own transport card, which is separate from Nol and Hafilat.
- Get a Sayer card, as Nol and Hafilat do not work here.
- Plan around the earlier last bus, often around 21:00.
- Use Al Jubail to connect onto intercity routes.
The Sharjah bus network at a glance
Sharjah runs its own transport system entirely separately from Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Different operator, different card, different hours. Knowing that upfront saves a lot of confusion for anyone who assumes the whole country works like Dubai.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Brand | Mowasalat |
| Authority | Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) |
| Payment | Sayer and Mowasalat cards |
| Typical intra-city fare | Around AED 6 with a Sayer card |
| Typical hours | About 06:00 to 21:00 or 22:00 |
| Serves | Residential areas, business districts, malls and the airport |
SRTA also regulates taxis and road infrastructure in the emirate, so Mowasalat sits inside a wider transport authority in the same way RTA operates in Dubai.
Local routes and terminals
The network connects the main residential districts to the commercial centres and malls, with Rolla and Al Jubail acting as the principal hubs.
| Route | Runs between |
|---|---|
| Route 1 | Rolla and Sahara Centre |
| Route 3 | Rolla Terminal and Safari Mall Terminal |
| Route 112 | Al Jubail to Ajman |
| Route 114 | East Street to Ajman |
| Route 117 | Al Jubail to Abu Dhabi |
| Route 308 | Ibn Battuta in Dubai to Al Rolla |
Sharjah’s network is built around the emirate’s own geography rather than around Dubai’s, which is easy to forget when you are commuting between the two. The residential districts inland and along the coast are well covered, while services thin out towards the eastern enclaves. For anyone living in Sharjah and working in Dubai, the practical pattern is a local Mowasalat bus to a main terminal, then an intercity route across the border.
Rolla is the hub for local city services, while Al Jubail is where the longer-distance routes gather, including the 117 to Abu Dhabi covered in our Sharjah to Abu Dhabi bus timings guide.
Route 308 is worth noting because it runs the opposite way to what most people expect: an SRTA bus starting in Dubai at Ibn Battuta and ending at Al Rolla in Sharjah. If you are heading to Sharjah from the southern end of Dubai, it can be more direct than backtracking to Union or Al Ghubaiba.
Timings and why they matter
This is the practical difference that catches people out most often, and it is worth being blunt about.
| Network | Typical first bus | Typical last bus |
|---|---|---|
| Sharjah local routes | About 06:00 | About 21:00 to 22:00 |
| Dubai network | About 04:00 | About 01:00 the next day |
Sharjah’s local buses finish three to four hours earlier than Dubai’s. If you are working late in Dubai and living in Sharjah, the intercity bus may still be running when the local Sharjah service that would take you the last few kilometres home has already stopped.
Some intercity routes run later than the local ones, so the two should not be assumed to match. The 112 to Ajman, for example, continues well past the typical local finishing time. Always check the specific route rather than assuming a network-wide closing time.
Fares and the Sayer card
Sharjah has its own transport card, which means the UAE has three separate systems that do not talk to each other.
| Emirate | Card | Works elsewhere? |
|---|---|---|
| Sharjah | Sayer and Mowasalat cards | No |
| Dubai | Nol | No |
| Abu Dhabi | Hafilat | No |
The discounted Sayer card fare is around AED 6 per journey on most intra-city routes, which is in line with the AED 6 charged on the Sharjah to Ajman services. Some SRTA routes also accept cash at the ticket counter, unlike Dubai where cash is refused outright.
The Dubai and Abu Dhabi cards are covered in our Nol card guide and Hafilat card guide.
Connecting to Dubai and beyond
Al Jubail is the gateway station, and Dubai’s RTA intercity routes tie it into the Dubai metro network at several points.
| From Al Jubail to | Useful for |
|---|---|
| Union | Red and Green Line interchange |
| Al Ghubaiba | Green Line and Abu Dhabi intercity coaches |
| Deira City Centre | Green Line and Deira |
| Abu Hail | Green Line |
| e& (Etisalat) | Green Line terminus |
That spread of connection points is genuinely useful, because it lets you pick the Dubai route that lands nearest your final destination rather than always heading for the same terminal. The Dubai to Sharjah services themselves are covered in our Dubai to Sharjah bus timings guide, and the whole network is in our UAE bus timings guide.
Frequently asked questions
What card do I need for Sharjah buses?
A Sayer or Mowasalat card, which are Sharjah’s own transport cards. Dubai’s Nol and Abu Dhabi’s Hafilat do not work on Sharjah services, so you need a separate card if you use the network regularly.
What time do Sharjah buses stop running?
Local city routes typically finish between 21:00 and 22:00, which is three to four hours earlier than Dubai’s network. Some intercity routes run later, so check the specific route rather than assuming a single closing time.
How much is a Sharjah bus fare?
Around AED 6 per journey on most intra-city routes with a Sayer card. That is the same fare charged on the Sharjah to Ajman routes, and cheaper than the AED 12 Dubai to Sharjah intercity fare.
What is Mowasalat?
Mowasalat is the brand name for Sharjah’s public bus operation, run and regulated by the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority. SRTA also oversees taxis and road infrastructure across the emirate.
Last verified: October 2026. SRTA publishes less detailed schedule data than RTA, so timings are indicative and vary by route.
