UAE Remote Work Visa

UAE Remote Work Visa 2026: Requirements and How to Apply

The UAE remote work visa, also called the Virtual Working Programme, lets you live in the UAE while working for a company based outside it. It runs for one year and you sponsor yourself. You need to earn at least USD 3,500 a month, and show six months of bank statements. Here is how to apply in 2026.

Do this next
  1. Gather six months of bank statements showing USD 3,500 a month.
  2. Get your employment letter and health insurance ready.
  3. Apply online through GDRFA or ICP and pay the fee.

What is the UAE remote work visa?

The UAE remote work visa is a one-year residence permit for people who work remotely. You can live in the UAE while your job or business stays based abroad. It is also known as the Virtual Working Programme, or the digital nomad visa.

The key point is who pays you. Your income must come from outside the UAE. That could be a foreign employer, freelance clients abroad, or a business you own overseas. The visa is self-sponsored, so you do not need a UAE company to hire you. You can also sponsor your family under it.

Who can apply and the requirements

Three groups can apply: remote employees, freelancers, and business owners. Whatever your category, you must prove a steady income from outside the UAE. In 2026, one requirement changed, so read the bank statement rule carefully.

Requirement Detail
Income At least USD 3,500 a month, earned from outside the UAE
Bank statements Six consecutive months proving that income (up from three months since January 2026)
Proof of work An employment contract, or proof you own a business registered abroad
Health insurance Valid international cover that includes the UAE
Passport Valid for at least six months

The bank statement change is the big 2026 update. Since 27 January 2026, you must show six consecutive months of statements, not three. Each month has to clearly meet the USD 3,500 mark. A good tip is to apply only once your sixth qualifying statement is issued. This one change is part of the wider set of updates in our UAE visa new rules 2026 guide.

Cost and processing time

The core government fee is around AED 1,535, which includes your Emirates ID. On top of that, budget for a medical fitness test after you arrive. If you apply in person at an Amer centre, a service charge is added too.

Processing is quick. A complete application is usually approved in about five to seven working days. Most delays come from income proof, so make sure your statements and letters are clear and consistent before you submit.

How to apply

The application is online. You submit your documents, pay, and complete the final steps after approval.

  1. Collect your documents: passport, six months of bank statements, employment or business proof, and health insurance.
  2. Apply through the GDRFA Dubai portal or ICP smart services, using UAE Pass.
  3. Pay the fee and wait for approval, usually within a week.
  4. Once approved, do your medical test and collect your Emirates ID.

The remote work visa is ideal if your income is abroad and you want a year in the UAE. If you plan to stay longer term, compare it with the UAE Golden Visa, which runs for ten years. Frequently asked questions

How much do you need to earn for the UAE remote work visa?

You need to earn at least USD 3,500 a month from outside the UAE. This applies to employees, freelancers and business owners alike. You prove it with six consecutive months of bank statements, and each month must clearly meet the threshold. An employment contract or business ownership proof is also required.

How many bank statements does the UAE remote work visa need?

Six consecutive months of bank statements. This changed on 27 January 2026, up from the previous three-month rule. Apply only once your sixth qualifying statement is issued, and make sure every month shows income of at least USD 3,500. This is the main 2026 update to the visa.

How long is the UAE remote work visa valid?

The remote work visa is valid for one year and can be renewed. During that year you can live in the UAE, sponsor your family, and keep working for your employer or clients abroad. If you want a longer stay, the ten-year Golden Visa is the main alternative.

Can I work for a UAE company on this visa?

No. The remote work visa is for income earned outside the UAE. Your employer, clients or business must be based abroad. If you want to take a job with a UAE company, you need a standard work permit and residence visa sponsored by that employer instead.
