Dubai Tram: Timings, Stations and Fares
The Dubai Tram runs 10.6 kilometres along the coast with 11 stations, linking JBR, Dubai Marina, Media City and Al Sufouh. It operates 06:00 to 01:00 Monday to Saturday and 09:00 to 01:00 on Sunday, every 8 minutes at peak. You pay with the same Nol card used on the metro, and it connects to both the Red Line and the Palm Monorail.
- Note the tram runs later than the metro, until 01:00 nightly.
- Tap your Nol card at the gates for every trip.
- Change to the Red Line at the linked metro stations.
The Dubai Tram at a glance
The tram is the smallest of Dubai’s rail systems and the most local in character. It runs at street level through the Marina and JBR district, serving an area that is dense, walkable and badly congested by car, which is exactly where a tram earns its place.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Stations | 11 |
| Length | 10.6 kilometres |
| Area served | The coastal strip from JBR to Al Sufouh |
| Operator | RTA |
| Payment | Nol card, the same as metro and bus |
| Connects to | Dubai Metro Red Line and the Palm Monorail |
Because the whole line is barely ten kilometres, this is not a system you use to cross the city. It is a local circulator for one of the busiest residential and tourist districts in Dubai, and it works best in combination with the metro rather than instead of it.
The route and what it serves
The line runs broadly parallel to the coast, threading between the towers of the Marina and along the edge of the beach district.
| Area | What is there |
|---|---|
| Jumeirah Beach Residences | The beach, The Walk, hotels and restaurants |
| Dubai Marina | The Marina towers, the promenade and the mall |
| Palm Jumeirah link | Interchange with the Palm Monorail |
| Media City | Offices and the media free zone |
| Knowledge Village | Universities and training institutions |
| Al Sufouh | The far end of the line |
The Palm Monorail connection is the one visitors care about most, because it is the public transport route onto Palm Jumeirah and out to Atlantis. Chaining metro, tram and monorail together gets you from central Dubai to the Palm without a taxi, though it involves two changes.
For residents, the Media City and Knowledge Village stops carry a steady commuter flow, which is why the peak frequency is as tight as it is.
Tram timings and frequency
The tram runs a long day, and unlike the metro it finishes at the same late hour every night of the week.
| Days | First tram | Last tram |
|---|---|---|
| Monday to Saturday | 06:00 | 01:00 the next day |
| Sunday | 09:00 | 01:00 the next day |
Frequency is good for a system this size: about every 8 minutes during peak hours, easing to every 10 to 12 minutes off peak. At those intervals there is no need to consult a timetable, you simply turn up at the platform.
The Sunday start at 09:00 is the latest opening of any Dubai transport mode, three hours later than the rest of the week. If you have an early Sunday commitment in the Marina area, the tram will not help you.
How tram hours differ from the metro?
People often assume the tram and metro keep the same hours because they share a Nol card and an operator. They do not, and the differences work in both directions.
| Item | Dubai Tram | Dubai Metro |
|---|---|---|
| Weekday start | 06:00 | 05:00 |
| Sunday start | 09:00 | 08:00 |
| Weeknight finish | 01:00 | Midnight |
| Friday finish | 01:00 | 01:00 |
The practical upshot is that the tram starts an hour later but runs an hour later too, every night rather than only on Fridays. Coming out of a Marina restaurant at half past midnight on a Tuesday, the tram is still running when the metro has stopped, though you will need another way to continue beyond the tram’s short route.
Full metro hours are in our Dubai Metro timings guide, and the Red Line that connects to the tram is covered in our Dubai Metro Red Line guide.
Fares and connections
The tram uses the same Nol card and the same zone-based fare structure as the metro and buses, so there is nothing extra to buy.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Payment | Nol card, tapped at the gates |
| Fare basis | The same zone system as metro and bus |
| Typical journey | Short, so usually at the lower end of the fare range |
| Metro connection | Red Line, at the linked stations |
| Monorail connection | Palm Monorail, for Palm Jumeirah |
Tap in at the gates for every trip, as you would on the metro. Because the entire line is only 10.6 kilometres, most tram journeys stay within a single fare zone. The full card and fare picture is in our UAE bus timings guide.
Frequently asked questions
What time does the Dubai Tram run?
From 06:00 to 01:00 Monday to Saturday, and from 09:00 to 01:00 on Sunday. It runs every 8 minutes at peak times and every 10 to 12 minutes off peak, so there is no need to check a timetable.
Does the tram run later than the metro?
Yes, on most nights. The tram runs until 01:00 every night, while the metro closes at midnight from Monday to Thursday and on Saturday. On Friday both run until 01:00. The tram also starts an hour later in the morning.
How many stations does the Dubai Tram have?
Eleven stations along a 10.6 kilometre route, running from Jumeirah Beach Residences through Dubai Marina, Media City and Knowledge Village to Al Sufouh. It is the shortest of Dubai’s rail systems.
Can I use my Nol card on the tram?
Yes. The tram uses the same Nol card and the same zone-based fares as the Dubai Metro and buses, so one card covers all three. Tap at the gates for each trip rather than on board.
