Dubai to Al Ain Bus Timings: The E201 Route
The E201 is the only direct bus between Dubai and Al Ain, running between Al Ghubaiba Bus Station and Al Ain Central Bus Station. The fare is AED 30 each way by Nol card, and the journey covers around 130 kilometres in about two hours and 15 minutes. Buses run roughly hourly, and unlike the shorter corridors this route keeps different weekday and weekend hours.
- Check the time carefully, as buses are only about hourly.
- Load at least AED 30 each way onto a Nol card.
- Allow two and a half hours door to door.
The Dubai to Al Ain bus at a glance
Al Ain sits inland on the Omani border, roughly the same distance from Dubai as Abu Dhabi but in a completely different direction. That makes this one of the longest scheduled bus runs in the country, and the service is built accordingly: fewer buses, longer gaps, and a coach rather than a city bus.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Route | E201, the only direct service |
| Dubai end | Al Ghubaiba Bus Station |
| Al Ain end | Al Ain Central Bus Station |
| Fare | AED 30 each way |
| Distance | Around 130 to 139 kilometres |
| Journey time | About 2 hours 15 minutes |
| Frequency | About every 60 minutes on weekdays |
The hourly frequency is the thing to plan around. On the Sharjah or Ajman corridors, missing a bus costs you 20 minutes. Here it can cost you an hour or more, so this is a route to check before you leave rather than turn up for.
The E201 route and stops
The E201 is a limited-stop service, calling at around nine points across the whole run rather than picking up along the way like a city route.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Terminals | Al Ghubaiba (Dubai) and Al Ain Central |
| Stops | Around 9 across the full route |
| Route number both ways | E201 in each direction |
| Vehicle | Intercity coach with luggage space |
| Dubai connection | Al Ghubaiba, in Bur Dubai near the abra crossings |
Al Ghubaiba is the same Dubai terminal used by the E100 to Abu Dhabi and the E306 to Sharjah, so it is a genuine intercity hub. If you are coming from elsewhere in Dubai, the metro to Al Ghubaiba is usually the simplest connection.
Dubai to Al Ain bus timings
Leaving Dubai, the service runs through the day at roughly hourly intervals. Published figures for the very first and last departures vary between sources, so the table gives the range you should plan within.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| From | Al Ghubaiba Bus Station |
| First bus | Reported between about 03:20 and 06:20 |
| Last bus | Reported between about 21:20 and 22:00 |
| Weekday frequency | About every 60 minutes |
| Weekend frequency | Every 40 to 90 minutes |
We are showing a range rather than a single time deliberately. Sources disagree on the first and last E201 out of Dubai, and because the gaps between buses are long, guessing wrong here has real consequences. Confirm on the S’hail app before you travel, particularly for an early start.
Weekend service also differs from weekdays on this route, typically starting later and running later into the evening. That is unusual on the UAE intercity network and easy to overlook if you are used to the Sharjah or Ajman services.
Al Ain to Dubai bus timings
Coming back from Al Ain, the pattern is noticeably different, and in one respect much better: the last bus runs a good deal later than the last one out of Dubai.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| From | Al Ain Central Bus Station |
| First bus | About 06:00 |
| Last bus | About 00:50, after midnight |
| Example arrival | The 06:00 reaches Al Ghubaiba around 08:15 |
| Frequency | About every 60 minutes |
That 06:00 departure arriving at 08:15 is a useful anchor, because it confirms the roughly two-and-a-quarter-hour run in normal conditions and works well for anyone commuting into Dubai for a 09:00 start.
At the other end of the day, the late service from Al Ain running to around 00:50 gives you far more flexibility returning than departing. If you are planning a day trip, the constraint is almost always the last bus out of Dubai rather than the last one back.
RTA publishes operating hours rather than a fixed departure list for intercity routes. On an hourly service like the E201, that makes checking S’hail on the day more important than on the high-frequency corridors.
Fare and payment
At AED 30 the E201 now costs AED 5 more than the AED 25 Abu Dhabi run, following a fare increase. Older guides still quote AED 25, so do not load only that amount onto your card.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Single journey | AED 30, either direction |
| Return | AED 60 in total |
| Payment | Nol card only |
| Cost per kilometre | About AED 0.23, still among the cheapest long-distance travel in the UAE |
For a 130-kilometre journey this is exceptional value, well below the fuel cost of driving the same route before you count anything else. Top up your Nol card before boarding, since there is no on-board payment. The full fare picture is in our UAE bus timings guide.
Planning the journey
This route rewards planning more than any other intercity service, simply because of the gaps between buses.
- Check the exact departure on S’hail rather than turning up.
- Arrive 15 minutes early, as seating is first come and there is no reservation.
- Remember weekend hours differ from weekdays on this route.
- For a day trip, plan around the last bus out of Dubai, which is the tighter constraint.
Unlike the northern corridors, most of this journey is open motorway, so traffic is far less of a factor. Delays are more likely to come from the Dubai end of the trip than from the desert stretch. If you are driving instead, our UAE traffic, vehicle and fines guide covers tolls and fines on the route.
