SEWA Bill Check and Payment: Sharjah Electricity and Water

You can check and pay a SEWA bill without logging in through the one-time payment option on SEWA’s e-services portal, using your SEWA account number. The SEWA app, the Digital Sharjah app, bank apps, e& payment machines and SEWA’s own centres also take payments. Card payments carry a small fee, around 1.25% online. Sharjah’s electricity follows the same slab rates as Dubai, from 23 fils per kWh, while water is charged per gallon from 3.5 fils. Expatriate households also pay a sewage fee of 1.5 fils per gallon, introduced in April 2025. SEWA’s call centre is 600 566 665.

Quick route
  1. Find the account number on any SEWA bill.
  2. Pay as a guest on SEWA’s e-services portal, or in the SEWA or Digital Sharjah app.
  3. Pay the full amount, partial payments are not always accepted online.

SEWA bills at a glance

SEWA, the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority, supplies Sharjah city and its towns. Its billing works differently from Dubai’s in a few important ways, so do not assume a DEWA habit carries over.

Item Detail
Authority Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA)
Pay without login One-time payment on SEWA’s e-services portal, with the account number
Card fee online About 1.25% of the amount
Electricity From 23 fils per kWh
Water From 3.5 fils per gallon
Call centre 600 566 665, emergencies 991

One practical difference from Dubai is the card fee. SEWA adds a percentage charge to card payments, so paying a large bill by card costs a little extra.

How to check and pay a SEWA bill

SEWA offers several routes. The guest payment option is the quickest if you only have the account number, for example when paying for a relative.

Channel What you need Notes
SEWA e-services, one-time payment The SEWA account number No login, choose bill payment and enter the account
SEWA e-services account Registration, or UAE PASS See bills and history for your own accounts
SEWA app The account number or a login Check and pay from your phone
Digital Sharjah app UAE PASS Supports Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay
Bank apps Add SEWA as a biller Works through your bank’s bill payment service
e& payment machines The account number Cash, at machines across Sharjah
SEWA centres and exchange houses The account number In person

Guides to SEWA’s portal note that online payments must usually cover the full amount due, with a minimum of AED 10. If you need to pay in parts, a SEWA centre is the safer option. To check a bill amount by phone, SEWA’s call centre on 600 566 665 handles billing enquiries.

Payment fees by channel

Where you pay by card Fee
SEWA e-services portal and app 1.25% of the amount
SEWA centres and exchange houses 1.24% of the amount
SEWA payment machines 1.75% of the amount

On an AED 800 summer bill, a 1.25% fee is AED 10. It is small, but it adds up over a year, so paying through a bank’s bill payment service can be worth checking if your bank does not add its own charge.

SEWA tariff: what you pay per unit

SEWA’s published energy calculator lists slab rates that rise with use. Electricity matches Dubai’s slabs, but water is measured in gallons rather than cubic metres.

Service Monthly use Rate
Electricity 0 to 2,000 kWh 23 fils per kWh
Electricity 2,001 to 4,000 kWh 28 fils per kWh
Electricity 4,001 to 6,000 kWh 32 fils per kWh
Electricity Above 6,000 kWh 38 fils per kWh
Water 0 to 6,000 gallons 3.5 fils per gallon
Water 6,001 to 12,000 gallons 4.0 fils per gallon
Water Above 12,000 gallons 4.6 fils per gallon

The same calculator adds a surcharge of 6 fils per kWh and 0.5 fils per gallon, and 5% VAT applies to SEWA’s charges. UAE nationals’ homes are on separate rates. Rates have changed over the years, including special rates once applied to freehold homes, so check SEWA’s calculator if your bill does not match.

The Sharjah sewage fee

Since 1 April 2025, expatriate households in Sharjah pay a sewage fee on their SEWA bill. It is 1.5 fils per gallon of water used, calculated from the water consumption on the SEWA bill, and UAE citizens are exempt. It was introduced by the Sharjah Executive Council as an amendment to the emirate’s municipal fees decision. Dubai has a similar fee, but on a different schedule, so do not use Dubai figures for a Sharjah home. On 6,000 gallons of water, the Sharjah fee comes to AED 90 a month.

Connecting and disconnecting

Unlike Dubai, where connection happens automatically with Ejari, a new Sharjah connection needs its own application.

  1. Apply through SEWA’s e-services or at a SEWA customer service centre.
  2. Provide the original tenancy contract signed by owner and tenant, a copy of your Emirates ID, and the last SEWA clearance certificate for the property.
  3. Pay the security deposit, which depends on the type of lease and property.
  4. Attest the tenancy contract with Sharjah Municipality, through a typing centre or the municipality’s website.
  5. Complete activation once the attestation is done.

To move out, request disconnection through SEWA’s e-services or its connection and disconnection department. A regular disconnection carries no service charge, while an urgent termination costs AED 200, made up of a AED 100 disconnection fee and a AED 100 urgent refund fee.
